    Reinventing Life:

    The Birth of Petit Cactus

The story of Petit Cactus is rooted in a deeply significant personal event: both of the founder Alain’s daughters were diagnosed with diabetes on the very same weekend. This life-changing moment not only transformed their world but also awakened a profound mission within Alain.

Faced with the complexity and the daily challenges of diabetes, he was inspired to create a solution that could help not only his daughters but also thousands of others.

    Why the cactus?
A nurse gave two small cacti to Alain’s daughters as a symbol of resilience—of life flourishing in difficult environments (and, as a side note, they do have prickly spines!).

This is how Petit Cactus came to be, guided by a clear vision:

Our mission is to help people with diabetes regain as normal a life as possible.

We fully understand the challenges and disruptions that diabetes brings to you and your loved ones, and we are committed to providing tools that simplify managing this condition.

Petit Cactus: simplicity, support, and health at your fingertips.

At Petit Cactus, we strive to give people with diabetes control over their health and daily lives by providing innovative features and continuous support.

In this pursuit, we combine technology, compassion, and innovation to create an app that isn’t just a tool, but a true companion on the daily journey of those living with diabetes.

Thank you to our invaluable partners!

We are proud to introduce the partners who accompany us on the Petit Cactus adventure. Each one plays a key role in our mission, enabling us to provide an innovative and effective tool for diabetes management. Discover how their support helps bring our vision to life.

Through Lucien Junior Bergeron, the CMDO has been an active partner in developing Petit Cactus. Their involvement has not only allowed us to refine our application but also facilitated connections with various strategic partners. Their contribution is undeniable in our quest to offer a comprehensive and effective solution for people with diabetes.

Our collaboration with McGill University, led by Dr. Anne-Sophie Brazeau and her student Asmaa Housni, focuses on an in-depth study measuring Petit Cactus’s impact on the daily lives of people with diabetes. Their research is essential to our understanding of the app’s effectiveness. It helps us refine and improve Petit Cactus, ensuring it meets users’ real needs in the best possible way.

Our partnership with the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières, led by Stephanie-May Ruchat, PhD—Full Professor and Holder of the UQTR Research Chair in Physical Activity and Maternal and Neonatal Health—aims to support pregnant women with gestational diabetes by effectively monitoring their diabetes during pregnancy and encouraging physical activity, which is crucial for both the mother’s health and that of her child. This allows us to tailor our features specifically to pregnant women’s needs, improving health management during this important time.

Is there clinical research to validate Petit Cactus’s features?

Yes, several studies have already been conducted to confirm patients’ needs, and a clinical study is currently underway in collaboration with McGill University to validate Petit Cactus’s features. If you are interested in participating, please contact us for more information.

Have you developed an app for diabetes clinics to monitor Petit Cactus users?

Yes, we have created a dedicated version for healthcare professionals. This application allows diabetes clinics to monitor Petit Cactus users’ data in real time, making personalized patient follow-up more efficient. Doctors can access meal histories, glucose levels, and reports generated by the app to optimize treatments.

How does Petit Cactus accurately recognize the foods in a meal?

Petit Cactus uses artificial intelligence (AI) technology based on a large language model (LLM). When a user takes a photo of their meal or inputs a description, the AI analyzes this information to identify the foods present. The app then links these foods to data from the Canadian Nutrient File, ensuring precise estimates of carbohydrates, proteins, fats, and other nutrients. This approach provides personalized recommendations while relying on trusted sources for nutritional data.
